Liberty Chapter Committee Descriptions
Archives Committee
Ensures that officers and committee chairmen send designated records to the archives; files records according to the adopted filing system; maintains the files and filing system; provides access to the records in the archives; communicates to the membership information about the archives; identifies areas of need for the archives; serves as advisory body to the Board on matters involving the archives; submits annual objectives and annual reports.
Bylaws Committee
Advises the Board on bylaw matters, identifying areas needing change or revision; receives bylaw change/revision proposals from the Board, and prepares drafts for Board consideration; communicates (via email) final, Board-approved proposed changes/revisions to members at least two weeks before the Annual Chapter Business Meeting; presents these proposals at the meeting for a vote; submits final, member-approved revisions to the MLA Bylaws Committee; submits annual objectives and an annual report.
Nominating Committee
Reviews the qualifications of possible candidates; selects and nominates candidates for Chapter offices of President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer-Elect Chapter Representative and Chapter Representative alternate, and Nominating Committee members; communicates to the membership information about the candidates nominated for Chapter offices; serves as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving Chapter nominations.
Programming Committee
The Programming Committee arranges the annual meeting of the Liberty Chapter in the Fall, which involves an in-person/hybrid conference and virtual Liberty Chapter Business Meeting. The committee arranges the location, speakers, facilities, etc.; communicates program plans to the membership and the Board; serves as an advisory body to the Board on program needs. A site liaison is appointed every year to facilitate local arrangements for members to attend easily. Submits annual objectives and an annual report.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee serves as the public relations body and information channel for the Chapter; oversees the publication of the chapter newsletter; oversees preparation of all other Chapter publications and publicizes activities; serves as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving public relations; oversees chapter listserv and website. Submits annual objectives and an annual report.
Communication Subcommittees
- The Listserv Subcommittee works with the membership committee to maintain the listserv used to inform the membership of chapter activities.
- The Newsletter Subcommittee produces and distributes the Liberty Chapter newsletter, disseminating information about the Chapter, the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Network, and the Medical Library Association. This current awareness publication is issued quarterly and serves as an official communication channel for the chapter. It provides an archival record of chapter meetings and activities, member and committee work, and relevant health sciences librarianship topics. The newsletter also offers a platform for members to share perspectives, ideas, and research activity reports.
- The Web Site Subcommittee maintains the Liberty Chapter website which communicates the activities of the chapter to membership and potential members of the Liberty Chapter. The web site is one of the official vehicles for chapter communication, along with the newsletter and listserv.
The Membership Committee
Maintains and updates the membership directory; communicates to the membership information about new members; recruits new members to the Chapter; identifies areas of need concerning Chapter membership; serves as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving Chapter membership; works with the communications committee on maintaining an updated listserv; submits annual objectives and annual report.
Professional Recognition Committee
The Professional Recognition Committee makes recommendations for annual awards to be distributed to membership; evaluates nominations for chapter awards; reviews all grant applications submissions; purchases physical awards and certificates; distributes awards during the annual meeting; submits annual objectives and annual report.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee is tasked with fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment; promotes DEI awareness through training, workshops, and educational resources for members; creates and implements DEI strategies, initiatives, and programs that align with the organization's goals.
Governmental Relations Committee
Monitors relevant legislative activity at local, state, and national levels; reports legislative activities to the Board; recommends action in response to relevant issues (may include correspondence with legislators); encourages membership to act where relevant; publishes articles of interest in the chapter newsletter; submits annual objectives and an annual report.
Professional Development
The Professional Development Committee develops educational events to keep chapter members informed about new developments in their field and related areas; plans and coordinates continuing education programs and workshops; solicits input from chapter members regarding preferred course/workshop topics; identifies relevant programs offered by MLA or other groups based on member needs; proposes courses/workshops to the Board; provides credentialing information to chapter members; submits annual objectives and an annual report.
Budget and Finance Committee
The Budget and Finance Committee meets at least once a year to examine all current revenue sources and expenditures; researches revenue-producing activities; studies investment policies and current sources of revenue for the chapter; submits annual objectives and annual report.
